No mention of alternative words ?

Since other French speaking countries use words like septante, octante and nonante it would be nice to mention them in the article. I get that you don't want to confuse beginners but acknowledging their existence for those that might have an interest into learning those alternative words might have been neat.

Not really a question and more like a suggestion.

Bonjour Alan,

Thank for your suggestion! I will make sure to pass it on for further discussion. It'd already been discussed on the forum a while ago. Here's the link: https://french.kwiziq.com/questions/view/alternative-numbers

Merci de votre contribution et bonne journée !

Bonjour Alan,

After discussing your query with my other colleagues, we agree with you that numbers such as "septante, octante and nonante" are used in other French speaking countries. However, while their metropilitan French equivalents (soixante-dix, quatre-vingt, quate-vingt-dix) would be understood in countries such as Belgium, "septante, octante and nonante" would most likely not be understood by French people. Therefore, the metropolitan French versions are best to be used in France and other French-speaking countries as they'll be understood there too.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
